Best free audio editing software

If you have recorded anything and wish to do some editing so that it sounds more professional, you will be looking for the best free audio editing software.

best free audio editing softwareWhat is the best free audio editing software out there?

Maybe you are new to this and would also appreciate a community to answer your questions along the way of audio editing. So we are looking for free software that runs on Windows, Mac and Linux and offers a forum.

Definitely winner is audacity. You can download it from the following link and it is a free version:

This tool is especially useful if you need to do one of the following things:

  • removing a section of audio
  • adding royalty-free music tracks underneath
  • save your work in MP3 ( plug-in the free add-on)
  • get consistent audio levels
  • distribute your work

How to create audio products

Talking about interviews and recording them, Skype is a fantastic version.

You could add Blue Snowball USB microphone or best free audio recording micssound quality and use audacity to get all voices and sounds to the same level. There are several free recording software products one can use, for example ifree-recorder.

But this is only for PC. If you use a MAC, eventually you have to pay, but there is a free trial available for eCamm Call Recorder For Skype.

Speaking about musical products, you can use your smartphone or iPhone, as long as you add a valuable microphone.

Some good option for any kind of recording is the zoom recorder

It is the number one recording device for musicians. Very handy and with 10 hours of battery freedom.

I personally use the H1 Zoom Handy Recorder, which has a mic design that captures perfect stereo image.

Just check it out —————->>> HERE.

Moreover, it comes with free Cubase and Wavelab bundled software. So you can edit and master your recordings for free!

Zoom offers an accessory pack, that I also use and highly recommend. It is very cheap and makes a great difference! The H1 Accessory Pack APH-1 consists in windscreen, adjustable tripod stand, mic clip adapter, padded-shell case, AC adapter and USB cable. You can have a look at what that means ————–>>> HERE.

How to market and sell those products

As Zoom so beautifully says, the world needs creators, people willing to contribute something. Something original, inspiring and powerful.

So get your voice, your music, your ideas out there! What are you waiting for?

Oh right, a strategy. Now that we have created a product, we need to create awareness. Your surroundings and social media followers need to become aware that you exist. There is so many ways to do that for free.

topflute.comFirst thing is social media. Create your Instagram, twitter, pinterest, Facebook and linked in accounts. Use the same profile picture in all, so you will create a brand. Yes, your own face and story are a brand. Think about your story and start to broadcast it.

It needs several stages, like Greek tragedy. You start off all hopeful and naive (explain when and how), you follow teachings and start to wonder (still all positive, just less rose in color!).

Tragedy happens, either from the outside world or from your inside (traumatic experiences, love and family, or major doubt threatening your whole musical carrier).

Chapter three is all about redemption. You find your way and make it personal. People will be in awe that you didn’t stop and wish to bring them your music anyway.

You are not alone – Friends created a Launchpad

Start broadcasting your story. Videos, posts, pictures. Whatever you thing suits you. Engage with your audience on social media. Respond and befriend alike carriers and stories. You will find so much support, it will be incredible. Just be honest and true. The genuine you with your story and your music.

Very powerful are groups on social media, such as on Pinterest and Facebook. It could add 10k viewers to your audience. So try to make friends with well-established groups in your music niche.

myflutelife.comPictures, texts and audios are very welcome and help to engage, but eventually you will need videos. YouTube or Vimeo or both. To train yourself for that establish very short live broadcasts on Facebook. You can just say: Hi, I am …., a musician in ….., I would love to let you listen to the music I write/play….and you say why you love or write this music and play like 30sec.

That is enough. Doing that on a regular basis you create awareness and a fan club of people who wish you well and see and hear more of you.

That is the point where you go creating an email list. You can offer your recorded and edited piece in change for their email.

There are many free providers of these services and you should take advantage of that. Friends of mine are offering an e-book on the topic that covers everything, even creating video courses and masterclasses for free, selling and marketing them for free.

Don’t miss out on the special launch offer and check it out now —————> HERE.

  1. Hey Janie, I enjoyed reading your article. Do you think audacity would be suitable to create audio recordings for language learning as well? One of my friends asked me about something like that, he would like to have a recording with words and sentences in English to listen to them while driving.

  2. Whoa! This is a fantastic post and one I am sure glad I stumbled upon! I was actually looking at another post written by you and I decided to read some more of your work! You are a fascinating person – a little music, a little marketing — and together, it makes for a little magic!

After I checked out your little videos, I knew you weren’t a robot and I wanted to read more about you and your story. Your writing has given me the boost I need to get my act in gear.

You see, I have been wanting to begin my own business online for a while now. I’m a traveling circus performer and the pay is, well, peanuts. 🙂 I have a couple of friends who have started their own websites and are into affiliate marketing. The hosting platforms they’re a part of are too expensive and I cannot pay for the services with peanuts. Do you have a recommendation for a host website or service?

I have another question. Since I’m on the road quite often, it’s difficult for me to write. I like the idea of webinars or podcasts to tell my story via digital means, versus typing everything out. That’s why I like your idea of recording. I’ll have to save up for a classy microphone and look into Zoom! Do you think this would help me to get my website up and earning money?

I’d like to save up to purchase that eBook you’re so highly speaking of as well. I checked out the sales page and read some testimonials! Wow! It sounds like everything I need is in that little guide!

Anywho, the monkeys are calling my name and I better get going. Thank you so much for this post! I’ll be back to read more of your work! Best of luck in your adventures!

    • Dear Monkey Mama, I might just have the right suggestion for you! Thank you for enjoying my website and writing a wonderful comment.
I totally understand the budget problem, as an artist or musician we always struggle with that, at least at some point.
That is why I wish to help you out here! There is a platform where you can learn, build a business and earn at the same time.
They allow free hosting of 25 websites, have a free Keyword Research Tool, some of the best training in the industry and an ever growing community of experts of all kinds. The first month is for free, that is why I suggest you have a look immedeately!
No credit card, no risk and you can start using all the features, with some limitations. After that it will be 20 bucks a month. That is incredible as it is less than just one of the features would cost singularly. Anyway, see for yourself at WA
To your other question, you might not be the only one! Your potential followers mostly also prefer videos, as they can be driving while listening to you or doing other stuff. So you are actually trendy and will be doing great in video broadcasting yourself on the road!
It will help people engage with you as they can see you as the dynamic and real person you are on a video. It will boost your visibility and interest in potential followers. More on the marketing and selling can be found in my friends’ Digital Marketing Launchpad
As to microphones I will be writing an article about that soon, so stay tuned!
Best wishes to you and the monkeys,

  3. Hi Jana

I am very inspired by your article and I’m very keen to learn more about how you have used this Digital Marketing Launchpad and it’s strategies for your own business.

Our band has made a good impact locally and we are getting some gigs in local venues but we would like to find a way to get our music to a wider audience.

Earlier this year we created some videos by recording some of our gigs and uploaded the videos to Youtube and shared them via our website. The feedback has been good but we cant seem to get any traffic outside of our geographical area. Do you think the social media tactics you have talked about above are viable for getting more publicity for a band?

I’m also very interested in the audacity software you mentioned. Since our videos are from live performances there is a lot of sound interference which we would like to remove to improve the quality. Do you think Audacity is suitable for doing that.

Thanks for sharing this great information and I look forward to hearing back from you.

    • Hi Jim! Congratulations on your band project. You have done a great first step! Audacity definitely is the right software to reduce interence noice and level the overall sound quality. It will give your videos a more professional touch right away!
With your edited videos you should go social as soon as you can! The first step is to create awareness on social media. Look for other profiles that have similar intends and start following them. Share their content and they will start sharing yours. You can quickly grow an audience this way. I would also advise to do short lives on facebook. You can programm them and will maybe have just one or two relatives watching your first. But don’t get discouraged, the video remains on your timeline and you can promote it afterwards. Next live session you will also have some friends and your audience will slowly grow. Just make sure that the sound quality is professional and then be yourself!
For more information on creating, editing, marketing and selling you can have a look at the Digital Marketing Launchpad my friends created!
It has been a turning point for me and I am reading it nearly every day for specific information and help.
Best wishes and good luck with your band promotion!

  5. This had all the information I was wanting to know about recording. It’s about time I started downloading some of the songs from my band but I didn’t know where to start until I read your article.

That ebook sounds amazing too. I’m going to grab myself a copy and start making some money online.

Thanks so much for giving such great advice.

  7. What a great article containing so much information! The internet is amazing for upcoming stars with so many free software and social media channels to get them out there. I am glad I came across this post as a friend of mine has a daughter who is trying to get her name out there for singing, I will be sure to show them this post to help them out further.

  8. Hi:
When your page booted up & I saw that top photo of the woman playing the flute, my thought that kept lingering & captvated me to not move, was WoW.
And then songs came to mind where the flute was playing within them. What a flash-back.
So this is when I shook my head & forced myself to scroll down.
Honestly, I’d thought / believed this site was NOT gonna be for us musically un-educated folk -us un-inclined / not gifted. I’d believed I’d tresspassed into the site of a concert flutist / flautist.
Literally, I’d felt I was in a twillight zone.
So as I went on my way reading, BeHold! -the very information I had been looking for. And wow, cameras with such recording capability. I love it! Absolutely.
Thank you for putting together this here site. Loads of intel that I need to come back into @ a future date & digest. With Christmas next week & New Years the week after & this & that, I’d prefer to invest the time here & not just fly through it all.
And as the Monkey Moma {you are way funny, girl – & love your site!} stated, they’re a calling me. So best to you & yours & for now, ciao.

    • Thank you very much, Jim! I am so happy I could help you out even if you are not a musician, it seems? There are so many things musicians and non both need to improve online presence and offline life in general.
I love that you plan to come back and read up a bit more and I hope you also find some gifts for friends and family.
If you are interested in anything specific, don’t hesitate to ask.
We are here to help you out,

  9. Hi Janie,

Very useful article, I’m just beginning to start my youtube channel and want do some “videos” with just my voice recording so I can amend them slightly and add create a podcast as well.

I recently bought my mic but as far as I’ve got, the audacity software sounds like it will be perfect at least for me to start off with for editing and amending the audio so I can make it unique for each platform.

Do you know if audacity works on all versions of windows devices?

    • Hi Nate, nice to be of help to you!
